I am sitting at the edge of the square that faces the cathedral in Santiago, 6 police vans are parked next to me. In the side streets a protest is taking place, I assume that they are communists, because every time someone finishes a speech they play the international. From my vantage point I can see pilgrims arriving almost constantly, I assume some arriving from Sarria 120km away and I am sure some from further away and from different Camino’s that all converge here. There are also tourists, chinese, Austrian, American. From almost anywhere and everywhere, the tourists are here not just for the history and the buildings but to gawp at the tired, hot, sweaty pilgrims walking bye. Who today I have watched throw themselves to the ground, hug each other with relief, and cry. The shops are open resteraunts are working. The world continues around the Pilgrims who I am sure as they arrive are finding this world a busy noisy place to be.
