Self care on the Camino

So many of us  Pilgrims walk with a grit and determination that we dont recognise from our normal lives. Pilgrims are driven towards Santiago its a huge magnet, that marks achievement change new beginings. But we are all guilty of ignoring our shin splints, twisted ankles, knee sprains, blisters. This is fine until we come to a standstill, cant move for the pain. That is when the light bulb moment happens and selfcare kicks in. But trying to lecture a walking friend who is in pain, is hypocrital especially if you dont take your own advice. My blisters are gone, my feet hurt less, my knees still ache. But yesterday when I felt sick at the end of the walk I realised, it was time for a proper rest. Selfcare 101. I took the bus this morning a mere 18km, into Leon. A trip I did not feel bad taking. I got into our Air B&B flat by 11. Showered ran errands, managed a two hour kip. I have just come back from a Thai massage. It bloody hurt, but only at the beggining. I left feeling better, walking better,my limp is gone for know. I feel very relaxed and calm. Selfcare, more of it more often. I recommend it.
